Friday is the day the Budge is printed

Thursdays can be hard. It’s the day the graphic artists layout the paper. Rose and I proof the paper on Thursdays. We scour the paper for errors. It takes a lot of concentration. Emails and phone calls to the pod in Cloquet are flying back and forth. (The pod is our name of the group of graphic artists who layout the community papers. They all work in Cloquet.)

But Friday mornings canĀ  be exciting. The Budge gets printed on Friday morning in the basement on the Duluth News Tribune printing press on the floor below our office. It fun to get the paper “hot of the press.” Today I took a few photos of the paper as it was rolling off the printing press.

This issue has some New Year’s resolution ideas by columnists Pete Langr and Kim Schlichting-Yeakle. We’ve also have two pages with photographs that appeared throughout the year.

Here's a couple of the pressmen stacking the Budgeteer.

I didn't count the carts, but there's lots of them full of Budgeteers, just waiting to get delivered to you.

    • Hi Earl,
Both the Duluth News Tribune and the Duluth Budgeteer News are owned by the Forum Company.
In a way the Tribune owns us, but not technically. Technically we are like siblings and the Tribune is the Budgeteer’s big brother. My mission is NOT to compete with the Tribune, but to cover more “hometown” news. I don’t cove the breaking news stories.
The editor of the News Tribune is also the supervisor of the weekly community newspapers.
